By the time we went to Australia in 1994 my friend Sigrid and I have known each other for a few years. Despite the fact, that we have a completely different personality, in many things we are at the same wavelength. Spirituality! We both like to read the same kind of books, we like to know about the Aborigines, about past times. We believe in the meanings of dreams and in life after death.
She has never traveled in her life before. When she told me about a friend in Australia and the innumerable invitations she's got from her I knew right away that we had to go. No sooner said than done. I suggested the trip to her and the very next day I went to the traveller's agency to get an idea about rates. My friend couldn't believe it at this time. She was almost not able to deal with the fact, that we're gonna fly to Australia soon and got all excited.
Since the seasons in Australia are the very opposite to countries on the northern hemisphere, we decided to travel in the beginning of April, which is fall in Australia.Like I said, my friend has neither traveled nor seen an airplane before, so she was scared but full of anticipation at the same time. Nothing was more important than to plan the trip to that continent. We didn't talk about anything else and couldn't wait to tell all our family and friends.
I think we made everybody crazy. In the last few weeks before departing we've met many times and, with shining eyes, tried to imagine how it was going to be in Australia. The route had been discussed already and the flight time was going to be about 21 hours long.
The night before departure we sat in her livingroom till 4 in the morning and couldn't stop talking about the forthcoming adventure.
Although we'd slept just a few hours we were not tired at all and went to the railway station to catch the train to Frankfurt airport.
Some of our best friends accomponyied us to say Good Bye.
When the train departed it was like in a movie and our friends were waving with handkerchiefs.
We were so full of joy and delight .
