A Friend Is One of the Best Things in Life

Though we don't see each other very much
nor do we write to each other very much
nor do we phone each other very much
I always know that, at any time I could call,
write or see you and everything
would be exactly the same
You would understand everything I am saying and everything that I am thinking
Our friendship does not depend on being together
It is deeper than that
Our closeness is something inside of us
that is always there
ready to be shared with each other
whenever the need arises
It is such a comfortable and warm feeling
to know that we have such a lifetime friendship

Even though we live far from each other
I always talk to you in my thoughts
and see you in my dreams
It doesn't matter that we are not together
because our friendship is such a strong part of my life
And as long as I know that you are happy where you are
I, too, am happy

You make me feel so special
by the sweet things that you do,
and sharing your life wonders
you are a friend so true.
Your heart is full of tenderness
your cup overflows with love,
I know that your friendship came
from our dear Lord above.
You are always in my thoughts
as I hope I am in yours,
your friendship is the sweetest fruit
thru which lifes blood just pours.
Walk with me as we grow old
please leave me not behind,
keep me always in your prayers
good friends are hard to find.

Yesterday a butterfly
came floating gently through the sky.
He soared up through the atmosphere
then drifted close enough to hear.
I said, "I'd love to fly with you and sail around the way you do.
It looks like it would be such fun
to fly up toward the summer sun.
But I have not your graceful charm.
I haven't wings, just these two arms.
I've been designed to walk around.
My human feet must touch the ground.
Then magically he spoke to me and told me what his wish would be.
He said, "What I'd love most to do is walk upon God's Earth with you,
to squish it's mud between my toes
or touch my finger to my nose.
I'd love just once to walk around with human feet to touch the ground,
but I have not two legs that swing,
I haven't arms, just these two wings."
And so we went our separate ways
in wonder and surprise.
For we'd both seen God's precious gifts through someone else's eyes.

Sometimes people come into your life for
only a short time.
You enjoy the time spent with them
and will always remember the memories
made during their brief stay in your life.
Others come along and touch your heart
and change your life forever,
they are the ones who become everlasting friends.
Everlasting friends are rare,
and if you are lucky,
in your lifetime you may make two or three.
You find them in many different places and in some surprising ways.
They can be made in a chance meeting at a store, in your neighborhood,
or even here on the Internet with someone
you have never met in person!
You will easily recognize who your everlasting friends are,
they are the ones who know everything about you,
and everyone else in your family too
and still stick around!
They are always there to laugh, and cry with you.
They listen and HEAR you when you share things with them,
be it a funny story,
a rant about something that went wrong in your life that day,
or a problem that is troubling you.
They always forgive you when you say
or do something dumb and hurt them
because they know you do not really mean it.
They go out of their way to do nice things for you,
and set aside their own problems to be there for you
when you need them the most.
An everlasting friend can point out your weaknesses and mistakes to you
and make suggestions on how to change them without hurting your feelings
because you know they are doing it out of love and without judgement.
Cherish these kinds of friends
and give back to them all they give to you,
because this is one of the sweetest things
we have in our lives.
